Findings
Participant #1 - Lane
- Participant #1 uses multiple avenues to "go back" to main screen. It seems like it isn't clear if one choice is the correct one. It isn't obvious. (4:50) she uses the back arrow on the browser. (6:55) she clicked "denver" to return to the denver page. (10:40) she uses the CL in the top left to navigate to main page.
- She seems to show she utilizes multiple options to find what she's looking for. (5:30) When searching for a one bedroom home, she searches in search bar at top of page. (6:15) When specifying dog friendly and under $2,000, she uses filter navigation to the left screen.
- For the "free" and "garage sale" being listed under "for sale" seems like it isn't the first place she would expect it to be. (7:00) She looks for garage sale items under community first when it is actually listed under "for sale". (17:45) She is asked to find the "free" section. She initially looks under "community" when it is listed under "for sale".
- She uses multiple avenues to find locations. (11:00) She uses map to navigate from Denver -> Main Page -> Las Vegas. (18:45) she looks at the cities navigation to the right to try and find Palm Springs. She can't so she goes back to Craigslist's main page. (24:40) looks at map to choose a location. She likes the map feature, but also looks at other ways to find different locations.
- It seems unclear of what a "gig" is. (19:20) When asked about finding a temporary job, she looks under "jobs". Then she goes to "gig". Then retracts and goes back to "jobs". She then searches for temporary jobs in search bar at (20:10)
- She feels that "services" is the right place to look for a plumber, but isn't totally sure what subcategory it should be in. (24:05) When asked to look for a plumber, she looks under "skilled trade" under services
- It seems like posting items isn't super clear. (28:30) when asked to post an item for free, she sells a boat under "boat" and states that it is free, rather than posting it in the "free" section
In the post-test questionnaire, she indicates that her opinion of Craigslist is that it is okay, but not great (2:10, second video). She states that the website is easy to use. (2:30, second video) that the appearance is ugly and very outdated. It looks like it has never been updated. She says the tasks were easy. She likes the amount of different things you can do/buy on Craigslist. She said that should probably would use Craigslist again.
Participant #2 - Jon
- Participant #2 isn't sure of the best way to go back to previous screens. (4:40) he tries to go back to Denver page and hits arrow on Craigslist left navigation bar. But that arrow only hides the navigation bar. That wasn't what he wanted so ends up using back arrow on browser.
- Throughout the study (8:30), he figures out CL in the top left brings you back to the Denver page.
- It seems like navigation isn't clear. When asked to search locations, he uses multiple different ways. (12:20) tries the location navigation bar to the right and can't find what he's looking for. He looks around some more and clicks Craigslist and it brings him back to the main page. (19:30) he went back to the main screen when looking for Rapid City.
- Some of the catergories to post under don't seem super clear. He can't find games when trying to post his Monopoly game, so he puts it under "general". It is actually listed under "toys and games".
- He didn't feel that some things were in obvious spots or where he would expect them to be. (33:00) he looks for where to change the language. He states that other settings are on the left side so he expected it to be there rather than on the right.
- (26:00) Seems a little unsure where to look for a plumber, but selects "skilled trade".
- The job/gig topic is confusing to him. 20:15 he tries to find a temporary job. He debates between job and gig categories. 21:15 he states he isn't understanding the difference between a job and gig. (21:50) he goes back to job and sees "employment type" and then checks to see if "gigs" has that. It doesn't. (22:30) he feels that "employees choice" might be temporary.
- He notices there are two buttons that do the same thing. (24:30) he sees two "edit posts" rather than just one. He uses it to get back to edit post information, but states he isn't sure which one he was supposed to use.
- The "community" and "for sale" categories seem to blend. He initially looks for "garage sales" under community (7:50). He does the same for "free" (19:10).
- He seems to utilize the navigation filter bar to the left. He uses it to search for a one bedroom home. Then for a one bedroom home under $2,000 and dog friendly.
In the post questionnaire, he feels that Craigslist is intuitive to a certain degree. (33:45) He feels like they put everything on one page, alphabetize it and call it good. "They don't hold your hand at all". (34:20) states that tasks were easy, but a few, specifically the temporary job/gig one was confusing. 34:50 he says that the appearance isn't easy on the eyes. He says that if he really were wanting to use Craigslist to buy something, he would have to search through spam (36:20). He says that he would use it in future use if necessary.
Participant #3 - Cindy
- Participant #3 only used the browser back arrow because another option wasn't obvious to her (4:45), (17:55).
- She used the search bar for a lot of things. It seemed like the easiest, most obvious option available.
- (6:30) she uses search bar to search for one bedroom home.
- (22:20) she typed in search bar to look for free stuff.
- Finding where to post the monopoly game wasn't obvious or clear. She posted it under "general" instead of "toys and games".
- She wasn't clear on what information was required or not required of her when making a post. (14:35) she posts a phone number and address even though she felt uncomfortable giving that information out for an item she was selling.
- When asked to find a one bedroom home, under $2,000, and dog friendly, she goes to a post one-by-one until she finds the one she was (7:10).
- She isn't sure what gigs vs. jobs is. (23:25) she looks for temporary jobs under jobs. She then hovers over gigs. Then searches for temporary jobs in search bar.
In the post questionnaire, she felt like it was "relatively easy for her level of knowledge" (2:30, second video). She mentions knowing there must have been an easier way to go back then the back arrow on the browser. She said she liked the lists of all the categories. She didn't like the back button and didn't like listing her address on her posts (3:45, second video). She felt the appearance was cut/dry and easy. She said she would use Craigslist in the future.
